History of Dai Heka "Those Gates"

In 2003 we bought the noisy Pereltjie Nursery School.

In January 2004 we ourselves demolished the first walls to change it into a
Guesthouse and B&B.

Deon (who originally comes from a mixed farming community in Potchefstroom)
and Liana (a farm girl from a Boesmanland sheep farm near Springbok)
both had their own ideas which can be seen all over in the guesthouse.

Late at night we were toiling and sweating to leave our own mark.
From buffing floors, gathering thatch for the roof, making burglar bars to the
making of DAI-HEKA.

The idea to make something different of the guesthouse was always there.
After a lot of enquiries and quotations we came to realize that we would have
to make the gates ourselves. After many late nights,
and lot of burns we finally designed and put the gates together.

Many of our friend knew how much time and energy went into the making of the gates,
which was supposed to be finished first. The conversation later started with
Are the gates ready? meaning that when the gates were finished the guesthouse would be ready.
The should have consisted of 3 words but we ended up with two.
We started calling the guesthouse Die Hekke and it ended being
called DAI-HEKA.

On the 1st of September 2004 DAI-HEKA was opened to a
Honey Moon couple from Welkom and on the 15th of September our first bride came
and changed in one of our rooms and stayed over with her family
